Measures taken to contain disease outbreaks in livestock

Muong Khieng commune has nearly 9,400 buffaloes and cows, and about 7,000 pigs. In November, African swine fever was detected in pigs, while lumpy skin disease emerged among buffalo and cow.

Farmers in Cu hamlet, Muong Khieng commune, tend to their livestock.

The commune People’s Committee promptly directed relevant agencies to guide farmers in culling infected animals, carry out disinfection and sanitation measures, and establish containment zones to prevent wider spread.

Across the commune, 794 animals with a combined weight of 40.7 tonnes were culled. The outbreaks among buffalo and cow have been brought under control, and local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to respond swiftly to any unexpected developments.
