Son La Hydropower Company currently manages and operates Son La Hydropower Plant and Lai Chau Hydropower Plant, with a total installed capacity of 3,600 MW. In 2025, the company met and exceeded the economic and technical targets assigned by state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN), with no incidents affecting personnel or equipment. In addition to power generation, the nine turbines of the two plants are regularly operated in frequency and voltage regulation modes, contributing to the stability of the power system.
Electricity output in 2025 reached 14.507 billion kWh, equivalent to 111.94% of the target assigned by EVN. Of this, Son La Hydropower Plant generated 9.671 billion kWh or 113.24% of the plan, while Lai Chau Hydropower Plant produced 4.836 billion kWh or 109.42% of the plan. Total contributions to the state budget amounted to 3.18 trillion VND (120.7 million USD), including 1.324 trillion VND paid in Son La province.
Since the beginning of the year, Son La Hydropower Plant and Lai Chau Hydropower Plant have operated their turbines safely and stably, with no incidents, while complying with dispatch orders from the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO).
As of April 10, 2026, electricity output at the two plants reached 1,458.7 million kWh and 448.14 million kWh, equivalent to 16.98% and 10.68% of the targets assigned by EVN, respectively.
At the working session, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade urged Son La Hydropower Company to strengthen discipline in operating its turbines and project components; strictly comply with regulations and procedures on safety, technical standards, operation, regulation and water use; closely coordinate with provincial and central authorities in disaster prevention and control to ensure safe and efficient plant operations; and enhance coordination with local authorities and hydropower plants in the Son La reservoir basin.
