In his opening remarks, Cao Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Extension Centre, noted that Vietnamese agriculture is entering a new stage of development, requiring a profound transformation from agricultural production to an agricultural economy; from focusing on output to enhancing added value; from single-sector development to a multi-value approach associated with green growth, the circular economy, and emissions reduction.

This transformation calls for a new generation of professional farmers built on three foundations: a new mindset, new approaches, and new values.

Lo Minh Hung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Council, speaks at the seminar.

In recent years, Son La province has successfully shifted from subsistence farming to large-scale commercial agriculture linked to markets and value chains. The province now has more than 85,000 hectares of fruit trees and Son tra (wild apple), over 33,600 hectares of coffee plantations, 825 agricultural cooperatives, and 216 growing area codes.

These achievements provide an important foundation for farmers to transition from being producers to becoming key stakeholders in the agricultural economy.

former Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and former Chairman of the provincial People's Council addresses the event.

During the seminar, delegates, businesses, cooperatives, and exemplary farmers shared practical experience in production and business while discussing new requirements for farmers in modern agricultural development.

Key topics included improving farmers' knowledge and skills; reorganising production through stronger linkages; enhancing the role of cooperatives and enterprises in leading value chains; promoting the application of science, technology, and digital transformation; and developing brands, ensuring product traceability, and increasing the value of agricultural products.

A representative of the 26/3 Agricultural Cooperative presents a paper at the seminar.

Delegates visit a booth showcasing local agricultural products at the seminar.

The seminar provided an important platform to exchange solutions for strengthening the coordinated support of the agricultural sector, the agricultural extension system, the Vietnam Farmers' Union, cooperatives, and businesses in helping farmers improve their production capacity.

It also contributed to gradually building a generation of professional farmers equipped with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability required to meet the demands of sustainable agricultural development in the new era.
