The 2025 rural and agricultural census was conducted under the Prime Minister's Decision No. 484/QD-TTg dated June 7, 2024, aiming to collect comprehensive data on agriculture, forestry, fisheries, rural areas and rural population to serve the formulation of development strategies and plans and improve people’s living standards.
In Son La province, the census collected data from 206,183 rural households; 17,708 households engaged in agricultural, forestry and fisheries activities in urban areas; 259 farms; 56 enterprises; 62 cooperatives; and 75 communes and wards.
Preliminary results show that over the past decade, the province’s rural areas have recorded many positive changes. Socio-economic infrastructure has been developed in a more synchronised manner; 100% of communes are connected to the national power grid, and 97.38% of villages have road access to commune centres.
The networks of schools and healthcare facilities have continued to be strengthened; cultural and information-communication institutions have been expanded; while clean water supply and environmental sanitation have seen significant improvements. The rural economic structure has shifted positively, with a decline in the share of households engaged in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and an increase in those operating in industry, construction and services.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman Cong acknowledged and commended the efforts and sense of responsibility of steering committees at all levels and relevant forces in ensuring the census was conducted on schedule, with quality and safety.
The results of the 2025 rural and agricultural census are of great significance, providing a comprehensive and reliable database for analysis, forecasting, policy-making and formulation of the province’s socio-economic development strategies in the coming period.
On this occasion, the provincial People’s Committee awarded certificates of merit to two collectives and six individuals, while the Son La Statistics Office presented certificates of commendation to 17 collectives and 201 individuals for their outstanding achievements in implementing the 2025 rural and agricultural census.
