Over 700 athletes participate in Son La Marathon Elite Hill 2024
The Son La Elite Hill Marathon 2024 took place at Tay Bac (Northwest) Square in Son La city on October 6, drawing over 700 athletes from agencies, businesses, communes and wards in Son La city and clubs in and outside the province.

The athletes competed in men’s and women’s events with distances of 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km. They started from Northwest Square and passed through major streets of Son La city and newly completed urban areas, including Nguyen Van Linh, Vo Nguyen Giap, Hoang Quoc Viet, Nguyen Luong Bang, 3/2, Lo Van Gia – Dien luc, To Hieu, and Elitte Hill Urban Area in Chieng Coi ward..

Taking place in favourable weather conditions, this was the first event to use electronic chips for timing. The runners tried their best to complete their distances in the fastest times possible.

The organisers awarded six first, six second, six third, and 12 consolation prizes to male and female runners across various distances, as well as special prizes to the two oldest male and female participants.

Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Cha A Cua, who is President of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and head of the organising board of the online contest on the 14th National Party Congress’s Resolution and the Resolution of the 16th provincial Party Congress for the 2025–2030 tenure, chaired a meeting of the contest’s organising board and secretariat on October 13. The event was also attended by Dinh Thi Bich Thao, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, Chairwoman of the provincial Party Committee’s Board for Publicity, and deputy head of the contest’s organising board.
Cha A Cua, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and head of Steering Committee 333, which oversees the implementation of the provincial Party Committee’s Resolutions 05-NQ/TU, 13-NQ/TU and 14-NQ/TU, inspected progress in disaster recovery and the resettlement of affected residents in Muoi Noi commune on October 13.
The Son La provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) and the Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD), held a kick-off meeting for the Sustainable Coffee Exchange (SCE) project on October 12.

More than 300 police officers and personnel from divisions under the provincial Department of Public Security and police units in To Hieu, Chieng Coi, Chieng Sinh and Chieng An wards have been mobilised to maintain security and public order during the second Son La Coffee Festival 2026, which runs from October 9 to 13. The operation also involves 40 members of grassroots security forces from To Hieu and Chieng Coi wards.
Son La province is seeking to speed up the implementation of energy projects to attract investment, with authorities focusing on resolving legal and land clearance bottlenecks.
The project to complete Road 1A of Tay Bac (Northwest) Square flower garden (the section from Trang Bridge to Road 1A) has been completed and put into operation ahead of the second Son La Coffee Festival 2026.
