Outstanding collectives, individuals in "Godmother" programme honoured

The Son La provincial Women's Union on June 24 held a meeting to praise outstanding collectives and individuals in the "Godmother" programme for the 2022-2024 period, on the occasion of the "Vietnamese Family Day” (June 28).

The programme was launched by the Vietnam Women's Union at the end of 2021, with the desire to bring love to children orphaned by the COVID-19 pandemic. After nearly three years of implementation, it has been responded by 100% of women's unions at all levels in the province and spread to departments, sectors and localities. Women’s unions at all levels have coordinated to review and compile a list of orphans, grasped the difficult situation of each child and the situation of his/her guardian to have appropriate and effective sponsoring solutions.

The programme has received high appreciation from all levels and sectors, attracting the attention of organisations and individuals inside and outside the province. Its activities include buying health insurance cards for orphaned students; covering part of study and living expenses; and providing school supplies, clothes and essential food. To date, 222 orphans have been directly sponsored by women's unions at all levels in the province and other organisations and individuals.

On this occasion, the provincial Women's Union awarded the certificates of merit to 15 collectives and seven individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the programme for the 2022-2024 period.
