Provincial Chairman inspects flood situation in Mai Son district

Hoang Quoc Khanh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; and Nguyen Thai Hung, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and Chairman of the provincial People's Council, inspected the flood situation in Mai Son district on July 24.

Due to the impact of storm Prapiroon, the second hitting Vietnam this year, from the night of July 23 to the early morning of July 24, Mai Son district experienced heavy rain, causing serious damage to human lives and assets.

In Chieng Noi commune, downpours and floods left six residents in Hua Pu and Pa Hoc hamlets, Chieng Noi commune dead and missing; and damaged 131 houses in 12 communes, of which five collapsed completely, 22 were hit by landslides and 104 were submerged. In addition, floods blocked many roads and destroyed crops and facilities in some communes.

After inspecting, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee requested Mai Son district to mobilise forces to urgently fix the consequences, visit and provide timely support for families who have suffered loss of life and property; continue to be on duty around the clock, keep a close watch on the forecasts of the rain and flood situation, and arrange permanent leaders to command and deal with possible floods and natural disasters.


The district must do well relief work and overcome consequences caused by floods and natural disasters, to stabilize people's lives, restore production, and protect the environment, he noted.
