Provincial chairman inspects flooding situation in Chieng Den commune

Hoang Quoc Khanh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, on August 1 inspected the flooding situation in Bom Nam residential cluster of Nam Giang hamlet, and Phieng Nghe and Nam Nieu hamlets in Chieng Den commune, Son La city.

Due to the impact of storm Prapiroon, the second hitting Vietnam this year, landslides and flooding occurred in Chieng Den commune. Currently, about 50 households in Phieng Nghe, and Nam Nieu hamlets, and Bom Nam residential cluster of Nam Giang hamlet are still deeply submerged. 

Immediately after the floods, Chieng Den commune has mobilized "4 on-the-spot" forces to help residents move their assets to safe places. The city Military Command and Police Division have increased personnel to support local households to fix the flood consequences. Currently, households affected by flooding and landslides have been given temporary accommodation at relatives' houses and cultural houses in neighbouring villages.

After inspecting the actual situation, Khanh requested that immediately after the water recedes, the city People's Committee must check the drainage caster caves, and dredge and install trash shields; study the feasibility of a plan to build drainage tunnels, ensuring effective flood drainage and flooding prevention.

It is necessary to immediately take measures to prevent and control epidemics, ensure environmental sanitation, and provide health care for residents; ensure adequate supply of necessities for affected households, helping them stabilize their lives after the natural disaster, he said.

Particularly for the flooded ​​Bom Nam residential area in Nam Giang hamlet, the locality needs to implement a plan to relocate residents and support households to build new house foundations to ensure safety and prevent flooding, while continuing to closely monitor the weather situation and staying ready for the "4 on-the-spot" plan to promptly move people and assets from areas at risk of flooding and landslides.
