According to the customs of the White Thai people, "Xip xi" is held on the 14th day of the seventh lunar month every year, when people give special attention to their ancestors and special care to young generations. Therefore, the White Thai people also call “Xip xi” children's Tet, during which the children who go herding buffaloes will bring along sticky rice, meat and cakes, and get new clothes from their parents.
On August 9, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the list of national intangible cultural heritage under Decision No. 2313/QD-BVHTTDL, including the "Xip Xi" rituals of the White Thai people in Quynh Nhai and Phu Yen districts, Son La province.
In her remarks, Xuan said this is an honour and pride for the White Thai communities in Phu Yen and Quynh Nhai districts, and a motivation for all-level Party committees, authorities and people of the two districts to jointly promote and introduce the "Xip xi" Festival to tourists, promoting the responsibility for transmitting the heritage to next generations and practicing it in contemporary life.
She asked Phu Yen to uphold the good cultural values of "Xip xi", linking the intangible cultural heritage with socio-economic development, especially tourism development closely associated with culture, people and history, contributing to turning the heritage into an asset and resources for development and improving the material and spiritual lives of locals.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Phu Yen district People's Committee presented 20 scholarships to students with outstanding academic achievements.
