Tree planting campaign launched in Son La

The provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee on February 15, the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, held a ceremony in residential area No. 4, Quyet Thang ward, Son La city to launch a tree planting campaign for 2024.

The event was attended by Nguyen Huu Dong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, and head of the provincial delegation of National Assembly deputies; Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; and Hoang Quoc Khanh, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee, among others.

Following President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching “For the sake of ten years, we must plant trees, for the sake of 100 years, we must cultivate people,” Son La province always considers tree planting an important task associated with local comprehensive development, not only for today but also for future generations.

Therefore, every spring, officials and people of ethnic groups in Son La province join the tree planting campaign, which is responded by localities and agencies and becomes a cultural trait in the beginning of each year.

In his remarks, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong called on all-level Party committees, authorities, departments, agencies, Fatherland Front Committees, socio-political organisations, localities, and people in Son La province to enthusiastically participate in planting trees.

He also urged them to raise awareness and take effective measures to protect forests, and prevent deforestation, forest burning, and illegal forest exploitation.

The official stressed the need to increase investment, optimise science and technology, and devise mechanisms in support of sustainable forest-based economic development.

The ceremony will be a good start for the tree planting movement in Son La province, promising the success of efforts to mobilise different economic sectors in the campaign, he continued, noting that it is expected to contribute to comprehensive and sustainable development of the province and Son La city as well, ensuring a green, clean and beautiful urban environment, towards the first-tier city status for Son La city.
