Son La city is home to 12 ethnic groups, with the Thai people numbering over 57,600, accounting for approximately 51.5% of the city's total population.

After more than three years of implementing Project No. 04-ĐA/TU dated August 20, 2020, by the municipal Party Committee on "Preserving and promoting the cultural identities of the city's ethnic groups, strongly reflecting the cultural identities of the northwestern sub-region in the 2020-2025 period," and Conclusion No. 1186-KL/TU dated April 3, 2023 by the Standing Board of the municipal Party Committee on cultural affairs and the preservation and promotion of the cultural values of Son La city's ethnic groups, the city has established 36 ethnic cultural clubs, with over 2,436 members across all communes and wards.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the city Party Committee presents certificates of merit to collectives.

The fine customs and traditions of the Thai people have been researched and recorded by artisans in the ancient Thai script. Clubs have researched and restored the "Xen Ban" Festival; and all ethnic cultural clubs have practised and skillfully performed the six ancient “Xoe" dances and "Vu dieu doan ket" (dance of solidarity). In addition, knitting and brocade weaving groups have been established, 150 rounds of ethnic games held for their members, and 81 exchanges between clubs organised at holidays, New Year, and important anniversaries.

In the coming time, the city will continue to synchronously implement solutions, combining the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural identities with the building of new-style rural areas and civilised urban areas. The People's Committees of communes and wards will instruct groups and hamlets to continue replicating the model of ethnic cultural clubs as well as the establishment of professional teams within the clubs to maintain regular activities. As many as 50 ethnic cultural clubs are expected to be formed by 2025, contributing to preserving the traditional cultural identities of ethnic groups, thus building a friendly, peaceful and unique Son La city.

Individuals receive certificates of merit from the city People's Committee.

On this occasion, the city People's Committee presented the certificates of merit to 22 collectives and 11 individuals with outstanding achievements in building and developing ethnic cultural clubs in the city.
