Son La city mobilises forces to help Phieng Nghe hamlet with post-flood cleanup

After the prolonged flooding, on September 21, Son La city mobilised over 500 people, including armed forces, officials, public servants, and youth union members from the city and Chieng Den commune, to help residents in Phieng Nghe hamlet clean up the environment and stabilise their lives and production.

Due to the impacts of storm Prapiroon, from July 23-25, Son La city experienced prolonged heavy rains, with many areas inundated and hit by landslides, causing property damage. In particular, more than 40 households in Phieng Nghe were flooded.

The participating forces have supported Phieng Nghe in cleaning up its cultural house, schools, roads, alleys, bridges, culverts, and drainage ditches; helped families disinfect their living areas; guided them to ensure food hygiene and safety to prevent diseases; and assisted locals in rearranging their houses, moving their assets from temporary shelters to their houses, and reinforcing barns.

In addition to Phieng Nghe, Nam Giang and Nam Nieu hamlets in Chieng Den commune also reported nearly 50 households flooded. Therefore, after completing the work in Phieng Nghe, the provincial People’s Committee assigned the city to continue it in these two hamlets.
