As part of the Son La hydropower plant reservoir, Quynh Nhai spans 10,500 hectares of water surface forming a vast lake. The highlight of Quynh Nhai reservoir is high limestone mountains with steep cliffs undulating amid the blue, clear and calm water flow, creating an extremely magnificent and majestic natural scenery.
Coming to Quynh Nhai, the first must-visit place is Pa Uon Bridge, the tallest bridge in Vietnam connecting the two riverbanks in Chieng On commune. Standing on the bridge, visitors can get the panoramic view of the vast reservoir.
Standing on the bridge, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Pauon Ecolakes Eco-tourism Area with a marina, homestays and sightseeing huts of lake view, bringing great experiences to visitors. The water under the bridge is always blue and clean, even in the dry season, which is an advantage for local people to raise fish in cages on the reservoir.
Departing from Pa Uon wharf, the yachts will take visitors to enjoy the majestic beauty of the reservoir, contemplating the towering limestone mountains. Tourists can stop to explore Heart Island and take photos in the poetic scenery
They can also call at Uy Phong Bay to experience kayaking, water volleyball playing and fishing or come to Binh Yen Bay to relax in a peaceful and poetic atmosphere and enjoy unique and delicious local dishes.
Quynh Nhai is also famous as a land rich in cultural traditions. The traditional hair washing ritual associated with the legend of Nang Han (heroin Han) held on the 30th day of the first lunar month every year and the Boat Racing Festival on the Da River at the foot of Pa Uon Bridge offer an opportunity for Quynh Nhai people to show their gratitude to those who rendered meritorious services to the hamlets and their love for nature as well as to attract tourists from near and far.
Currently, Quynh Nhai has developed eight tourist attractions bearing the characteristics of the reservoir area, including Pa Uon Bridge, Uy Phong Bay, Heart Island, Pu Dan Island, Quynh Nhai Eco-tourism Area, Spiritual and Cultural Tourist Area, Pauon Ecolakes Eco-tourism Area, and hot mineral spring in Bon hamlet. These tourist sites are being invested and exploited, promising to lure a large number of tourists in the future.
The district now continues to call for investment in tourism to improve the quality of available tourism products, and at the same time, develop more adventure products on the water andcliffs, and in caves, bringing many interesting experiences to visitors.
