Phuc Sinh Son La Corporation inaugurates Cascara tea processing line

Phuc Sinh Son La Corporation on October 21 inaugurated a Cascara tea processing line in Mat hamlet, Chieng Mung commune, Mai Son district, as part of the first Son La Coffee Festival 2023.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Lo Minh Hung, members of the Standing Board of the Party Committee, permanent members of the provincial People's Committee, former provincial leaders, representatives of provincial departments and agencies, the Ambassadors of Azerbaijan and Laos to Vietnam; and a delegation from the Lao province of Houaphanh.

Phuc Sinh Son La is the first industrial-scale Cascara tea processing plant, serving both the domestic market and exports. The line, whose construction began in August 2023, is capable of processing 10 tonnes of ripe coffee cherries per day, or one tonne of finished tea per day. It includes a standard system for fruit washing, husk separation, UV sterilization; a multifunctional freeze-drying system to maintain tea's cleanliness, flavour, and colour; and an automated packaging system capable of producing square and triangular tea bags.

The material for tea production is the husks of ripe coffee cherries grown, nurtured, and harvested in accordance with strict procedures. These coffee farms are part of the Rainforest Alliance (RA) sustainable coffee project in the high-tech coffee region of Son La province. The processing line simultaneously meets the standards for sustainable material area and BRC Food 9 (a food standard set by the UK).
