Son La develops culture, sports, tourism strategically

Nguyen Huu Dong, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee, on October 12 chaired a working session between the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and the Party Delegation to the provincial People's Committee on the development of the culture, sports and tourism sector, and issues related to the Son La Prison special national relic site.

After more than two years of implementing the Resolution of the 15th provincial Party Congress in the 2020-2025 term, the Party Delegation to the provincial People's Committee has led the provincial People's Committee to focus on directing the concerted and effective implementation of various solutions to promote the development of culture, sports and tourism in a strategic manner.

The restoration, preservation and promotion of tangible cultural heritage values has received due attention. Son La has 95 historical and cultural relic sites and scenic spots approved to be included in the conservation list. The field of physical education and sports has developed strongly, as since 2021, the province has participated in 95 national and international tournaments, winning 408 medals of all kinds.

The tourism sector has also enjoyed rapid and efficient development. The Moc Chau National Tourist Area has completed 16 of 20 criteria as prescribed in the Law on Tourism while the Son La Hydropower Reservoir Area has been proposed to be included in the national tourism system planning for the 2021-2030 period.

From 2021 to September 2023, the city served a total of more than 8 million tourists, with revenue from tourism activities surpassing 8 trillion VND (327.2 million USD).

The plan to preserve, restore and promote the value of Son La Prison has so far completed the planting of boundary markers; the research, review and proposing of a plan to compensate and support the relocation of households on Khau Ca hill. A number of projects on restoring, preserving and embellishing the relic site and landscapes adjacent to its protected area have been implemented. Attention has been paid to effectively exploiting and popularising tourism products, and promoting the value of the relic site.

Speaking at the event, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Dong, who is also head of the provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies, assigned the Party Delegation to the provincial People's Committee to continue leading and directing the effective implementation of tasks on developing culture, sports and tourism as identified in the Resolution of the 15th provincial Party Congress in the 2020-2025 term.

It is necessary to effectively carry out resolutions, strategies, projects, programmes and plans of the government and of the province on cultural development; improve the validity and efficiency of State management over culture, sports and tourism; mobilise and effectively use investment resources for building and developing culture and human appropriately and commensurately with investment in socio-economic development; and effectively implement the plan to preserve, restore and promote the value of Son La Prison special national relic site./.
