Moc Chau district gears towards township status

After the three-year implementation of Resolution No. 10-NQ/TU dated May 13, 2021 of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee on developing Moc Chau district into a township by 2025, with the efforts and determination of all-level Party committees, authorities and residents in the district, and with the attention and support of provincial authorities, departments and agencies, Moc Chau has achieved many significant results.

The provincial People's Committee has directed the district People's Committee, and relevant departments and agencies to sketch out annual plans in parallel with the implementation of the resolution according to their assigned fields and tasks. Quarterly, the steering committee for building Moc Chau district into a township and the Moc Chau national tourist area by 2025 convenes meetings to learn about the situation and promptly instruct relevant agencies to provide consultations in addressing obstacles.

Relevant departments and agencies have actively coordinated with Moc Chau district’s all-level Party committees and authorities in materialising the master plan of the Moc Chau urban area until 2024, and sub-area planning schemes in the district.

To date, the task of adjusting the master plan has been approved by the Prime Minister. The district has also completed the planning of the Moc Chau urban area until 2040, proposed the Ministry of Construction approve and recognise it as a fourth-tier urban area, and the provincial People's Council issue a resolution approving in-principle the establishment of Moc Chau township and the re-arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Moc Chau district to establish wards and communes under the township.

The district has mobilised social resources for Moc Chau urban infrastructure development, and on the basis of balancing state budget sources, it has reviewed and proposed a list of priority works and projects for the 2021-2025 period, and public investment plans for 2022, 2023, and 2024 to ensure the implementation of criteria towards the township status.

It has instructed infrastructure construction in line with fourth-tier urban standards, such as the investment project for the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway’s section in Son La province.  The project on the relocation of the 110kV line from Moc Chau to Mai Chau (Hoa Binh) is also being drafted.

To date, the five projects decided by the provincial People's Committee have been completed, and nine others related to Moc Chau urban infrastructure development are underway. Besides, four projects decided by the district People's Committee have been done, and six others are being rolled out, contributing to meeting the targets and criteria for a fourth-tier urban area.

Along with the State budget, the district has paid attention to investment attraction to lure more resources for infrastructure development, creating a premise for the building of the township.

As many as 15 projects worth over 20.93 trillion VND (822.15 million USD) have received in-principle approval. At the same time, the locality has facilitated the study and project building and implementation of potential investors, and maintained information exchanges with them. It has issued documents quarterly urging the acceleration of projects failing to meet their schedules.

With a high determination, and drastic and concerted direction of all-level Party committees and authorities, and the strength of solidarity, innovation, democracy and responsibility of each official, Party member and resident, Moc Chau has achieved 88.96 points, all of the five criteria, and 61 out of the 63 standards set for a fourth-tier urban area, striving to reach the township status by 2025.
