Post-flooding environmental sanitation in Tong Co commune under inspection

A working group of the provincial Centre for Disease Control on July 29 inspected and supervised the implementation of environmental sanitation and domestic water treatment in Tong Co commune following storm Prapiroon, the second of its kind hitting Vietnam this year.

The delegation visited flood-affected areas, including the Tong Co commune health station, Sao Mai Kindergarten, and Phe, Co, and Thum Cay hamlets, inspected the use of supplies, chemicals, and medicines to prevent infectious diseases after floods and common diseases, and guide how to use handbooks on water treatment and environmental sanitation during the rainy season.

They asked the People's Committee of Tong Co commune, the Thuan Chau district medical centre and other forces to carry out disinfectant spraying and water treatment at schools and hamlets as soon as flood water recedes and people finish cleaning their houses in order to prevent infectious diseases. They also urged cleaning husbandry farms and ground floors of stilt houses, and ensuring food safety in daily life, and hygienic toilets.

On this occasion, the delegation presented 187 antibacterial soap bars to Tong Co and Ban Lam communes.
