The commune has established a steering committee for forest protection and development, developed annual forest protection plans and those for forest fire prevention and fighting; signed commitments on forest protection and forest fire fighting between village heads and communes, and between households. It has also consolidated firefighting teams of five hamlets, while coordinating with the district Forest Ranger Department to disseminate the Law on Forestry, decrees and policies related to forest protection and development to residents. It has well implemented the payment for forest environmental services, so that people consider the forest the main source of family income.
Forest protection teams of the hamlets have regularly coordinated with local forest rangers to patrol forests in order to promptly detect and prevent illegal acts of deforestation; actively participated in firefighting drills organized by the district and commune to improve skills in responding to all possible situations.
Since 2022, Hang Dong commune has partnered with the Bac Yen district Forest Ranger Department to organize 20 conferences on the Law on Forest Protection and Development for 1,500 people in five hamlets as well as develop and implement fire prevention and fighting plans in the dry season. It has established five forest management and protection teams of the hamlets, with nearly 500 members, mainly militia, youth union members and forest owners.
The commune has also coordinated in planting 310 hectares of new forest and more than 5,000 dispersed trees of all kinds, including 160 hectares of protection forest and 150 hectares of special-use forest, increasing the forest coverage of the commune to 46%.
