The Son La provincial Department of Industry and Trade and its Trade Union held a ceremony on April 26 at the Mai Son Cement Joint Stock Company to launch the Action Month for Occupational Safety and Hygiene, and the Workers' Month 2024.

The industry and trade sector’s Trade Union currently has 39 out of the 42 grassroots trade unions in businesses with 2,675 worker members. In 2023, the trade unions organised various practical activities to care for, and protect legitimate rights and interests for trade unionists and workers.

With the theme of proactively controlling risks to occupational safety and hygiene set out for the Action Month for Occupational Safety and Hygiene, and the Workers' Month 2024, the industry and trade sector’s Trade Union requires units and businesses to strengthen communications to raise awareness of employers and employees in implementing the Law on Occupational Safety and Hygiene; regularly organise training on occupational safety and hygiene and health care activities, and periodic health checks for early detection of occupational diseases for employees; continue to care for and protect the legal and legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers; and promote patriotic emulation movements among them.

At the launching ceremony, the provincial Labour Confederation handed over 50 million VND (1,970 USD) from the Vietnamese industry and trade sector’s Trade Union to support the construction of a charity house for an disadvantaged trade unionist; presented the confederation’s donation to support the construction of two houses, worth 30 million VND each, for two union members. Leaders of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade also gave gifts to 17 workers living in difficult circumstances.
