Son La women stay creative, aspire to rise up

On March 8, 1910, the Conference of Women organized by the Second International (Socialist International) decided to choose March 8 as International Women's Day, a day to unite women’s struggle with the slogans: “8-hour working day”, “Equal work”, “Protecting mothers and children”. In Vietnam, March 8 also marks the anniversary of the Uprising of Hai Ba Trung, the first two national heroines who fought off foreign invaders from the North and regained national sovereignty.

Collectives receive the certificates of merit from the Vietnam Women's Union.

Along with the women's unions nationwide, the Women's Union of Son La province is increasingly growing in organizational structure, attracting members and women to effectively participate in its activities and movements. Currently, there are one provincial union, 12 chapters in districts and Son La city, three affiliated unit, 204 women's unions of communes, wards and towns, and over 2,000 branches and groups, with a total of more than 232,600 members. All provincial Women's Union officials, key district-level women’s union officials and all 204 grassroots-level women's union chairpersons meet the prescribed standards.

Women’s unions at all levels have regularly launched many emulation movements associated with carrying out campaigns to attract members and women. Notably, the emulation movement "Building Vietnamese women in the new era" associated with developing Son La women with "solidarity, kindness, friendliness, creativity, aspiration to rise up", has been receiving positive response from women in both public agencies and the rural sector, motivating them to strive to study and improve their qualifications in all aspects, as well as actively engage in social activities, thus affirming women's position in family and society.

Through the emulation movements, 1,102 women have won the title of "Typical Women"; 354 collectives and individuals were rewarded. In particular, at the final round of the regional competition "Women's startups - Promoting indigenous resources in 2023", organised by the Vietnam Women's Union, three projects of Son La province won awards, including one first and two consolation prizes. At the national competition, Son La had one project bagging the third prize.

Responding to the campaign "Building families with 5 nos, 3 cleans", the province now has 4,113 households meeting the criteria of "family of 5 nos, 3 cleans" or "family of 5 yess, 3 cleans". Each women’s union chapter has carried out a project, contributing to building new-style rural areas and civilized urban areas. They have maintained the models of "Plastic waste collection", "Three-clean women’s union chapter in building advanced new-style rural areas", "Self-managed women’s road".

Implementing the emulation movement "Digital transformation at the women’s union chapters at all levels", in 2023, the provincial Women’s Union organised six training conferences to improve digital skills and the ability to apply information technology for 600 all-level women's union officials. It has directed its chapters at all levels to apply information technology in their activities. The information work on Zalo pages for union officials at all levels has remained effective. Many online contests have been launched by the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee and the provincial Women’s Union.

Promoting the patriotic tradition of heroines Trung Sisters and Trieu, Son La women continue to concretise emulation movements, campaigns, breakthroughs and key tasks of the Women’s Union, participating in local socio-economic development, hence contributing to building Son La province with green, fast and sustainable development.
