Following President Ho Chi Minh's teaching on tree planting, Son La city consistently regards this as a vital task, closely linked to its comprehensive development. Every spring, local officials, Party members, civil servants, and residents from various ethnic communities come together to launch tree planting and afforestation activities, marking the beginning of the city's annual tree-planting campaign.

At the ceremony, the city called on all-level Party committees, authorities, Vietnam Fatherland Front committees, mass organisations, wards, communes, and residents to actively participate in tree planting and afforestation efforts. It also emphasised the importance of raising awareness of forest protection, promoting sustainable forest-based economic development, and contributing to the comprehensive, sustainable growth of Son La city. These efforts aim to maintain a green, clean, and beautiful urban environment while gradually meeting the criteria for a first-tier city.

After the ceremony, delegates and citizens enlisted in the army participated in planting 170 trees at the technical training ground of the Son La city Military Command.
