During the year, the province recognised 33 new schools as national-standard ones, including 12 kindergartens, two elementary schools, 16 primary and secondary schools, and three high schools.

The education universalisation for 5-year-old children reached 100%. The province met the primary and secondary education universalisation standards at level 2.

Son La ranked 12^th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide and fifth among 14 northern midland and mountainous provinces in achieving the secondary education universalisation at level 2.

It also ranked 45^th out of 63 localities across the country in meeting level- 2 literacy standards.
